Soliton

In the field of physics, a soliton is a self-reinforcing solitary wave packet that maintains its shape while it propagates at a constant velocity. This unique behavior is due to a balance between dispersion, which spreads the wave out, and nonlinearity, which narrows it. Solitons are solutions of certain types of differential equations, and their particle-like nature allows them to emerge unscathed from collisions.
