Skin microbiome

Referring to the community of microorganisms living on the skin, the skin microbiome or skin flora consists of approximately 1,000 species from nineteen phyla. These organisms are primarily located in the superficial layers of the epidermis and the upper parts of hair follicles. They have evolved to utilize the limited nutrients available on the skin, with Cutibacterium acnes being a representative species.
