Shōchū

Originating from Japan, Shōchū is a distilled spirit typically made from grains and vegetables. The most common base ingredients include sweet potato, barley, rice, buckwheat, and sugar cane. Unlike sake, which is brewed, Shōchū is distilled, which results in a higher alcohol content. It is traditionally consumed straight, on the rocks, or mixed with water or other beverages.
