Phonk

Originating in the early 2010s in the United States, Phonk is a unique subgenre of hip hop and trap music. It draws inspiration from 1990s Memphis rap, incorporating vocals from old Memphis rap tapes and samples from early 1990s hip hop. A distinctive feature of this genre is the use of cowbell samples that resemble the sounds of the Roland TR-808 drum machine.
