Short chains of amino acids linked by peptide bonds are known as peptides. They are essentially smaller versions of proteins, which are polypeptides with a molecular mass of 10,000 Da or more. Unlike steroids, which are ring-shaped fatty molecules, peptides are chains of amino acids.
